Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, is one of the first universities to enter the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" construction. In 1920, the Middle East Railway Administration established Harbin Sino Russian Industrial School, the predecessor of Harbin Institute of Technology, to cultivate engineering and technical personnel. The school became the cradle for cultivating industrial and technical talents in modern China. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, Harbin Institute of Technology became one of the two universities in China that studied the higher education model of the former Soviet Union. Since then, the university has been a key focus of national construction. In 2000, Harbin Institute of Technology and Harbin Institute of Architecture merged to form the new Harbin Institute of Technology. Nowadays, the school has developed into a national key university with a focus on science and engineering, and coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as science, engineering, management, humanities, economics, and law.
